THE GAFFERS GALLOP

January 28th, 2013

Filed Under: News with 0 Comments

Hello

I wonder if you could possibly help me.

A TV company flew in from New Zealand late last year to interview me as the author of “Travelling With Mr Turner”.

It turns out that one of the characters in my book who took part in a motorcycle ride sponsored and filmed by ESSO in 1953, had a double life
and they have made a documentary about him to be broadcast on prime time TV.

Triumph’s Edward Turner rode from Lands End to John O Groats on a 149cc Triumph Terrier in 1953 as a publicity stunt. However one of the
directors who travelled with him had absconded from the Indian army (and much else), reinvented himself at Triumph Motorcycles. The difficulty is we

can’t say too much about what happened because the family haven’t yet been told and all this is going to be filmed.

The reason I am bringing this to your attention is to see if you can help me find the film of the ride known as the Gaffers Gallop. I have
turned over my website – www.fiftiesroadtrip.com to finding the film. It is ofcourse the 60th anniversary year of the Gaffers Gallop so it would
be great to find the film in any event. However, I have to find it in the next 6 weeks if it is to feature in the documentary. Can you put out
an appeal?

It’s a needle in a haystack search and the only real chance I’ve got is if www.fiftiesroadtrip.com goes viral – I know you should be careful what you wish for but
please feel free to pass on or link the site to as many people as you feel may have an interest. I hope that all will enjoy the period photographs in any event. To that end I have’nt compromised on the quality of the photographs and consequently they take a couple of seconds to download.
A slightly unorthodox request, but I would be grateful for any help and hope you enjoy the photographs in any event.

Best wishes,

Nigel C Winter

THE PARCEL MOTEL

January 18th, 2013

Filed Under: News with 0 Comments

HERE IS A WAY TO GET THEM PARTS POSTED FROM ENGLAND.ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT POST FREE TO THE UK OR ONLY TO THE UK..

OUR NEAREST PARCEL MOTEL IS ON THE WATERFORD ROAD AT THE TOPAZ PETROL STATION

www.parcelmotel.com

How it works

Parcel Motel is a whole new way to manage your online shopping deliveries.  Each Parcel Motel contains 80 secure lockers of varying sizes. They are all located in convenient places such as petrol station forecourts with 24-hour access 7 days a week. To find out where your nearest one is click here.

No more waiting around or missed delivery notices telling you to pick up your parcel during the exact same hours that you’re at work. And no more worrying about memos from your boss on the subject of receiving personal deliveries at work!

Now you can have your parcels sent directly to your nearest Parcel Motel ready for collection, at a time that suits you, and for only €3.50 per stay.

It couldn’t be easier to get started. Read on, or watch our How It Works Video here

Step One

Make sure you have your mobile phone and credit/debit card at the ready. Register online at Parcel Motel.com or through our Facebook page. Select your nearest Parcel Motel location when registering and receive your unique Parcel Motel Identification Number (PMID). You will also receive your Parcel Motel key card containing your PMID in the post.

Step Two

Shop away online on any website. MAKE SURE YOUR ITEM IS NO LARGER THAN 41 X 38 X 64cm, and no heavier than 10kgs,  and when it comes to entering a delivery address enter your name and your PMID and then enter either of these two addresses:

Your name
Your PMID
Parcel Motel
Unit 5 Mygan Park
Jamestown Road
Finglas East
Dublin 11
Ireland
Your name
Your PMID
Parcel Motel
1A McKinney Road
Newtownabbey
Co Antrim
BT36 4PE  (BT36 4PX also works)

For example, set up an address in your Amazon address book like this.

The reason we are giving you an option of the UK address is that some UK websites offer free delivery to UK addresses only. So if you come across a website like this then why not avail of the free delivery!  All you have to pay is the Parcel Motel delivery charge or if it’s one of your first two free drops then it will be completely free!

For quality assurance, your parcel is sent to our centralized check-in area where we receive all parcels from various carriers. If it arrives in good condition, we will provide the carrier with a unique PM receipt number (PMRN). This is what they should use as their proof of delivery and verification that we have taken custody of your parcel. We will then check in your parcel by photographing it and determine your preferred Parcel Motel location by the PMID.

Step Three

Once your parcel has arrived at your chosen Parcel Motel we will send you a text containing a unique secure PIN number. You will get a new PIN number each time you use Parcel Motel.

Step Four

Your parcel is now ready for collection at your chosen Parcel Motel. When you arrive simply key in your phone number followed by the PIN number for this delivery and hey presto a door will swing open with your parcel inside.

Sunday

Sunday sees two major events, there is the annual Crosville gathering of buses, coaches and enthusiasts ancient and modern and the Extravaganza street parade. Festival entrants join with walkers in costume, cyclists, marching bands, entertainers and traction engines to circle the town. The spectacle lasts almost an hour.

On Sunday evening the second road run normally takes place around the celebrated Marine Drive for superb coastal views and most unusual photo-opportunites. The half-way stop by the ‘Rest and be Thankful’ cafe is a transport spectacular in itself. There will be more information on whether the road run takes place on the Festival field.

The Extravaganza street parade around the town is repeated at midday on Monday
