Along with a few people I am putting together a run from Leighlinbridge in aid of the Children in Temple Street hospital. The run is the idea of Liam Kanewhose son was looked after in temple street and there will be separate runs for tractors and cars/bikes. There is no involvement by any car clubs other than a request for as many as canto support us. There is no minimum amount and all are asked to support in any way they can. The Run will start at approx. 12.00 pm on Sunday 17th August and will take just over 1 hour to complete. There will be refreshments at the end of the run in Meaney’s bar as well as live music and we hope to see as many as can attend. I know it clashes with other runs like west Wicklow etc. but we struggled tofind a date that did not clash and we tried to stay away from dates involving local clubs. I hope you will advise as many of the members as possible and maybe even post it on the website given the cause involved. We will post details to donedeal and other clubs and I attach details of the poster in the hope you will advertise it on the website. Many thanks for reading this and any assistance given. The contact details for the run are my own 087 6504647 and Liam Kane on 087 688 1720 and Keith on 086 864 7637

‘The BIG 50….’ ‘Oldest Steam Rally in Ireland celebrates its 50th Birthday Premier event in the calendar of steam and vintage shows in Ireland Issued on Monday 28 July 2014. The official launch of the 50th National Steam rally was held today in Phoenix Park Dublin with will be held in Stradbally, County Laois on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th August 2014.
This is the oldest steam rally in Ireland, with the first ever rally held in Stradbally, Laois in 1965. Steam enthusiasts and families from all over Ireland are expected at the premier event in the calendar of steam and vintage shows throughout Ireland.
To celebrate the special 50th anniversary, a whole host of additional entertainment is being organized this year including:
Mr. Ken Graham, President of the Irish Steam Preservation Society commented: ‘We are very excited about welcoming our old and new visitors alike to our special 50th rally this year. We’ve all worked hard to ensure that it’s going to be one of our biggest – and best – rallies to date. Not only have we extra vintage exhibits, but we’ve also got extra trade stands to cater for all types of visitors, including auto-jumble, fashion, arts, crafts, jewellery and much much more’, Mr Graham said.
In addition to the array of vintage on display, numerous family events will be held over the August bank holiday weekend including a carnival, sheep dog demonstrations, and a steam train which will be giving train rides through the woodlands of the Cosby estate. Steam threshing, stone crushing and sawing timber will also be part of the fun.
An interesting addition this year will be John Hoctor and Packy O’Brien from County Tipperary exhibiting ‘loy’ digging, which is a form of manual ploughing which was used before and during famine times. This is the sort of digging that was done before any ploughs or tractors were used and involves using a loy to dig the ground, turn over a sod and then sowing the seed potato into the ground.
A free car park and picnic area available to all attendees over the two day event. Admission: €10 adults; Students/OAPs/teenagers: €5. Children are free.

Trim Vintage and Veteran Rally has been running since 1985. It started in a small yard in Loman Street Trim with just 23 cars. The founder Norman Pratt determined to expand the show, approached the Roundtree family who very kindly gave us Porch fields to use on the day.
It has grown each year since then and now we have in excess of 500 cars and motor cycles on show. It has become a renowned family day out with a lot of different side shows to keep everyone happy from the young to the old.
It has become such a great day that the only thing that could spoil it would be the weather. We have had everything from The Slieve le Mon Armoured Car from the Civil War to the Presidential Rolls Royce. We have had great support from Northern Ireland and the northern visitors enlighten a lot of us greatly with their range of cars. We have also had the Morgan Club of Great Britain over to visit. We receive numerous entries but never know until the day what is going to turn up. |
One of the reasons for this rally is to raise funds for local Charities.
Attractions at this years event include the following: Vintage, Veteran & Classic Cars, Vintage Tractors, Commercial Vehicles & Motor Cycles, Classic American Cars and lots of fun for all the family.
