The future of the Nore View Folk Museum in Bennettsbridge is uncertain. Since the passing of curator Seamus Lawlor last year doubts have grown as to whether it would ever again open its doors to the public.
I have learned today that the building on historic “Cannon Hill” that housed the exhibits now lies empty. The collection of more than 12,000 exhibits may, it now seems likely, leave Bennettsbridge and possibly County Kilkenny though hopefully will be displayed elsewhere, to the benefit of future generations of Irish people and visitors from all parts of the world.
Regardless of where the collection is displayed in the coming years, the ebook about Seamus Lawlor and his wonderful achievement will remain as a permanent memorial to this extraordinary man.
