From Bright Ideas to the Finish Line

The six steps in the F1 in Schools Championship

Imagine building a 1/20th-scale F1 racing car capable of travelling at over 110km/hr – using advanced 3D design software, automated manufacturing technology … and some bright ideas from you and your team mates.

F1 in Schools is a unique technology challenge that enables second-level students to get their hands on the latest technology from the worlds of engineering and manufacturing. Here are the six main steps:

Plan: Form an F1 team and brainstorm. Put your best ideas together in a five-page plan.
Design: Team members use CAD software to develop their ideas and model them in 3D.
Analyse: Virtual Wind Tunnel software predicts the effects of drag and lift on the car design.
Make: CAM software and a CNC system converts the car design into a physical car.
Test: Wind and/or smoke tunnels used to test and improve the car’s performance.
Race: Display portfolio. Make presentation. And race F1 car at 110 km/hr (or fas

Higgs Boson is a team formed in Abbey Community College Ferrybank to compete in the F1 (Formula 1) in Schools competition funded by the ICS (Irish Computer Society). The aim of the competition is to design and fund a scale model of a car that will be raced at qualifying, regional and national level, and possibly at the World Finals.

For the competition the team is required to build a car and we are required to release our team into the press. Along with this release into the press comes advertisement. The team requires sponsorship to fund itself for advertisement and for the portfolio which we have to present over the course of the competition. As Higgs Boson has already qualified for the regional finals in Cork from the 12th-19th of March, we are required to build and to show a presentation for that date.

We have already had our first press release in the Munster Express and we will be graded on our use of money and how professional our portfolio and visual display looks.

The team offers three tiers of advertisement:

Tier 3: €50 – €150, you will be featured on the car and will be mentioned in our list of sponsors.

Tier 2: €151 – €350, you will have a major feature on the car and on our stand, you will be on our team gear as a sub-sponsor.

Tier 1: €351 -, you will be one of our main sponsors, you will be heavily featured on all of our team gear and on our stand as well as the car.

Of course alternative methods of sponsorship could be discussed with any of our team members, as we are always searching for new ways to promote our team and improve our chances in the competition. Especially in the current climate, we are fully aware that funding is not the only factor needed to build a successful team.

By investing in sponsorship with Higgs Boson you will be given updates on where you will be featured, and how this will benefit you. Our target audience is very broad, and you will be put straight into the heart of it  through our own team advertisement. We hope to hear from you soon, and we appreciate your time in reading our email.

Attached are the team logo and the team promotional poster with further contact details, enjoy and we hope to be hearing from you soon. To learn more about the huge competition go to www.f1inschools.ie.
